movie review : Dr Strangelove
Thanks to Marine which made me watched last night Dr Strangelove as a part of our new remote weekly movie nights. Rules are simple, each Monday one of us need to announce on twitter which movie he consider as a part of his top 20 movie and we have 7 days to watch it and write down a personal comment.
This week was Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - 1964 from Stanley Kubrick. I was already quite a fan of the dark humour of Kubrick but this chef d’oeuvre turns my movie evening into a great piece of fun and laugh.
Putting things in perspective using the cold war as a plot for a dark humour satire in 1964 6 months after the assassination of Kennedy might not have been an easy thing, I wish someone tell me how it has been received by public.
To come back to the original point, the cast is wonderful and the actual Dr Strangelove is endlessly funny at the end of the movie during the monologue on the future plan to save humanity. I have as well to mention the phone conversation between both presidents which can be seen over and over and just keep make me laugh as the first time.
I ask anyone which like dark humour to see this movie which define the comic of situation as well as outline the real sense of comedy.
Finally I am thankfull for the skills of Kubrick in playing chess which he used at many occasion to make a point with George C Scott to play his role the way we can admire him in.
One week in france
We just spent one week in south of France with my lady and we got shocked every day of the attitude of french people. There was no day without getting pushed in a coffee shop or in an antique shop, of course no one ever apologyze for their behavior. My lady which doesn't speak french got screamed at in a restaurant because the waiter could not understand her order. Well, I think I am done with france and i wish them go luck.
today is the first day of the rest of your life, will it be successfull?
Yes. I try to make every single counting. Life is short and there is a lot of things I need to accomplish. My lady thinks that I speed up everything, but the true is that there is not time to waste.
"If today were the last day of your life, would you want to do what you are about to do today?"
My answer is yes. Do I regret decisions I took in the past, none of them. Life is one big learning experience.
What kind of employee are you?
As Rod say there is different type of employee, but I would like to go further in the number of type and maybe find the source of the difference :
- The sloppy : the "S" type is one of the most common one, his ultimate target will be to make just enough work to not make him kick out of his company. He stays focus on how to minimize his effort and is the perfect 9 to 5 employee, you will never see the S after working hour (except to check facebook or X video on youtube because he forgot to pay his internet bill at home or at the home of his mom). The S type is not a bad guy, he is a person that doesn't see any futur in his role, someone that doesn't have any inspiration. But at the end it's up to him to make his life and work happen.
- the victim aka "moocher" : the "V" type is definitely the type I hate the most. He truly believe to be better to do his job and other know about it bu prefer to let him down. He is a total bitch and spend his whole time to do "politic" in his company. He only feels good when he won one of his little coffe machine war. Bottom line he will stay a victim until he is fired and at the point he will try to become the martyr and bring other in his chute. It's not up to him to make his life happen because he is a victim, it's better for him to go back living on his mom couch.
- the leader aka "striker" : he makes his life and job happen, bring his touch in any project, inspire other from his leadership attitude. They are few, most of the time they are not appreciate by the moocher or the sloppy (that doesn't stop the victim to try to steal from their work). I have the chance to know some of them, and they all have something in common whatever their universe is, they are good in what they do because what they do have a meaning for them.
Does what YOU do mean something to YOU?
Light difference between documentary and fiction
Today I rode one of my friend post about a “documentary†of Michael Moore “the corporationâ€. I never saw this movie and I am not attending to discuss about the subject of this movie. I just want to point out the fact that too many people are taking this kind of fiction for documentary. Michael Moore is a filmmaker not a documentaries, the difference is when the subject of the movie is affected by the view of the director.
To take another similar situation, I read every day news paper on internet and right before the office at the kiosk. I never take news from one source of information to make sure that the final idea of the story will not be affected by the publication. Every story has at least two sides, it’s up to the reader to know them and make his own opinion.
